The Boston Language Institute

The Boston Language Institute is an institute that allows foreign students to learn English in Boston, which is considered the educational capital of North America. Boston is an extremely recreational and culturally rich area. As the Institute is located in the city center, students are close to a wide variety of activities such as sports stadiums, cinemas, concert halls, theaters, cafes, restaurants, nightclubs and museums. All these facilities are within walking distance in most cases, or even easily accessible by public transportation.

The institute is located in Kenmore Square, close to Boston's famous Back Bay neighborhood, next to Kenmore MBTA bus and train stations. The address is 648 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02215.

The institute has been active for almost 40 years already, as it was founded in 1981. Since then, it has provided both instruction and translation services. The institute has worked with over 140 languages in translation, and it has taught English as a Second Language to more than 76,000 students, which also include governmental and corporate clients.

The institute has a recognized TEFL Certificate Program for teachers. Since 2000, more than 2400 teachers have been trained in the institute. These teachers form a world-wide network in more than 30 countries. This program has been recognized by the Wall Street Journal as "one of the better known programs in the country."

At any time, from 45 to 50 languages are being taught in a week, in the evening, weekday and Saturday classes. The institute offers both private lessons as well as small group classes, from 4 to 12 students. Classes can be both at the Institute, or on-site for the corporate clients. The institute applies what is known as the Communicative Approach, which consists of developing student performance by means of all aspects of language learning: writing, listening, speaking and reading. Teachers are constantly focuses on stimulating student speech and not on merely lecturing. Also, by exploring the culture, which is a feature of all programs at the institute, allows the students to fully take the new language home.

Another service provided to governments and companies that involve in business internationally is what is called Cross Cultural Consulting. People from different countries and cultures comprehend and respond to the identical situation differently, with neither essentially being right or wrong. Basically, the service consists on explaining why people from different cultures act the way they do, in order to understand each other and build successful relationships. This is done in seminars and private coaching.
